Lepidoptera in and near my Home

Moth:

Yes Majority of these moths are found at my Home... Initially I was proud to see so many beautiful moths are coming to my home to see me...But then I realised they are getting trapped inside because lights at my home are misguiding them. Moths are evolved to move at night with the help of moon/stars...((Transverse orientation)

One can easily identify if it is male or female moth with the help of its antennae, as male moths do have such feathery comb kind of antennae, and female moths have thread like antennae. Male antennae have chemical sensors, to detect female pheromone.

Observation: sometimes this moth seats like half butterfly position, wings not widely open but half fold half open.

We have observed two different sizes of these moths, one was smaller than 20mm. and another with about 30mm wing span.

Superfamily Noctuoidea???

These moths hold their wings tent like over their bodies

One reason why noctuids are called "owlet" moths is that their eyes reflect a light shone on them at night.

Noctuid moths have an interesting adaptation to defend against bats, their chief predators. a noctuid moth  can hear the pulses of ultrasonic sound made by bats, and  fly erratically — diving or cartwheeling — right before a bat swoops to get it.
